• plaque #1 – hamilton, ontario – august 2026

A plaque that hits you out of nowhere. Like a ball from a homerun landing in your beer. Or a fender bender when you’re deep into an episode of CBC’s Ideas.

If you knew that Lester B. Pearson lived in Hamilton before you read this plaque you are either a historian or Lester B. Pearson.

It would have been cool to have a personal anecdote or vignette about what Pearson thought of his time in the city. Where did his family live before Hamilton given his father was posted from community to community through their church?

Pearson enlisted to fight in the First World War in the year after he left Oakwood. This would have been where he spent the end of his childhood.

Four out of five stars. A very good plaque.
